Chelsea Manning, the former Army private convicted of giving classified government documents to WikiLeaks, is running for the U.S. Senate in Maryland.
Manning, a 30-year-old transgender woman born as Bradley, filed the paperwork on Thursday, the Washington Post reported.
She was convicted in 2013 of 20 counts for releasing more than 700,000 classified government documents. She was released from prison in May last year after serving just seven years of her 35-year sentence, thanks to clemency from President Obama.
She moved to Maryland following her release from a military prison in Kansas, and has made headlines constantly since.
