Colin Kaepernick donates $50,000 to Meals on Wheels, proving private donations beats government funding

President Trump is not cutting federal funding to Meals on Wheels. But the perception that his budget proposal targets this non-profit organization that delivers meals to senior citizens — a view driven by the media — has led to a surge of private donations to the group.

Among those donors is former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has moved on from protesting the national anthem to do something productive with his personal fortune. Meals on Wheels confirmed Tuesday that Kaepernick made a $50,000 donation to the organization.
